Symposion House: Warm Minimalism Meets Modern UK Interior Design
Perched in the heart of Peckham, London, Symposion House is a residence shaped by light, craft, and the joy of gathering. Through a human-centred approach, architect Benjamin Wilkes has created a space that celebrates natural materiality and contemporary UK home design.
Softened palettes, thoughtful spatial flow, and gentle geometry exhibit the growing shift toward warm minimalist interiors in the region, a style that contrasts the classic, rooted in connection and craft.
Symposion is an inspiration for sustainable yet stylish living in the UK. This Victorian townhouse renovation is resourceful in footprint yet rich in detail, where a curved marble island, oak cabinetry, microcement surfaces, and brushed copper tapware come together to infuse a rustic, lived-in warmth that feels effortlessly light.
“Symposion House was designed as a tactile and atmospheric home, with a focus on creating spaces that feel calm, grounded, and quietly expressive,” shares Benjamin.
Indoor and outdoor spaces merge seamlessly, with timber-framed doors and windows connecting the home to a private courtyard that acts as a natural extension of the living area. From inside, garden views, natural light, and fresh air flow freely, enhancing the sense of openness.
The kitchen is designed for all seasons, open and airy on bright days, yet cosy and enclosed for winter. An elegantly curved oak island topped with a marble benchtop anchors the space, enriching the room’s palette with organic elegance.
A bold red built-in banquette, crafted by Charles of Lloyd Upholstery, offers a cosy corner, echoing the modern curves and rich tones carried throughout the home. Featuring a coffee station, breakfast bar, and open skylight ceilings, the lower level is bathed in natural light, while an enclosed living room with a fireplace, oak joinery, and bay window provides a place for retreat.
The master ensuite showcases how tactile materials in soft, earthy tones bring warm minimalism to life, while functional fixtures — including an open rain shower, freestanding bath, and our Milani Heated Towel Rail — are thoughtfully arranged to create a humble yet luxurious atmosphere.
Benjamin shares, “In the master suite, the bathroom was envisaged as a sanctuary for our clients, referencing elements of hotel stays from their travels.” The space achieves a simple, grounded quality that resonates with the craftsmanship and creativity evident throughout the rest of the home.
“A deep, rich terracotta microcement finish brings warmth and depth to the space, while handmade glazed bejmat tiles introduce texture and tactility. ABI’s brushed copper fittings complement these materials beautifully, adding a refined consistency and quiet glow throughout,” he continues.
Symposion House exemplifies carefully considered design, where attention to detail, materials, and human-centred principles combine to create a sense of tactility and comfort — a concept being increasingly prioritised in UK contemporary home design.
Refined yet welcoming, warm minimalism resonates with its balance between beauty and livability, fostering a calmer, more connected lifestyle.
In alignment with this approach, ABI Interiors boasts a comprehensive product range in a diverse range of styles and finishes, allowing other elements within a space to be echoed or contrasted for added depth and detail.
