The term is most popularly used in the US, to refer to the day following Thanksgiving. It dates back to the 1960s when the police labelled ‘Black Friday’ to reflect the mayhem that endured when masses of suburban tourists travelled to the city to commence their holiday shopping.
How long does Black Friday last for?
Technically, Black Friday lasts for 24 hours. However, this varies across different businesses. The period generally lasts over the weekend following the Friday and into Cyber Monday. There are also many pre-Black Friday sales leading up to the date.
