This Tranquil Victorian Loft Conversion Offers the Ultimate City Escape
Behind the Design
Creating a calming, stress-free sanctuary was top of mind for Studio Milne founder Ruth Milne when approaching this loft conversion in Walthamstow in North East London. The result is a charming two-storey Victorian property that skillfully combines traditional fixtures with modern design elements, evoking a sense of relaxation.
“The brief was to create a really luxury space, but also a tranquil space,” says Ruth. “That was quite important to the clients, that they could come back from a hard day's work and soak in a bath and feel relaxed and a really calming space.”
Retreat upstairs, and you’ll find the cosy master bedroom, which introduces a welcome pop of colour with bright orange cabinetry and playful wildflower wallpaper splashed across the walls and sloped ceilings.
This private enclave is illuminated by natural light that spills in through a skylight above the bed and features brushed brass light fittings that align seamlessly with the ensuite’s provincial-style tapwear.
Traditional herringbone flooring gives way to rich terrazzo tiling upon entering the main ensuite. It features a floating vanity and an inviting freestanding bath to create a clean, open ambience that maximises space and allows the terrazzo to take centre stage.
These are perfectly paired with ABI Interiors’ Kingsley brushed brass bathroom tapware and matching Milani Heated Shower Rails for a functional, modern touch.
Perfectly complementing the home’s Victorian roots, our Kingsley Provincial Collection brings elegance and sophistication to the bathroom with its ornate detailing and unique, soft curves.
“The Kingsley range has a traditional nod, but it's not too traditional, so it works really well with this Victorian property,” says the Studio Milne founder. “The finishes are really lovely, and the warmth in the brass fitted really well within the bathroom.”
The brushed brass Kingsley shower fixtures provide a striking contrast against the terrazzo flooring, Carrara marble skirtings, and dark green tiles tucked away behind an elegant fluted shower screen.
These contemporary finishes have injected a fresh, youthful element into this Walthamstow loft conversion while enhancing the Victorian home’s natural charm.
